The Devine Bioheat Story
It’s simple: you can make a difference improving air quality without having to spend an extra penny and at the same time help reduce foreign oil imports. You can use this renewable energy product today with no modifications to your heating system. The product is called Devine Bioheat.
Devine Bioheat is made by blending biodiesel with conventional heating oil. Biodiesel is a natural solvent, so that Bioheat actually cleans as it moves through the heating system. There are no furnace or system modifications required and Devine Bioheat costs no more then your current oil.
In October of 2004 Devine Bros. Inc. was the first fuel oil company in Connecticut to bring Bioheat to the market. The reason was simple. We found a premium heating oil which is better for the environment. Biodiesel is the only alternative fuel to have fully completed the health effects testing requirements of the Clean Air Act. Tests showed that the use of Bioheat in a standard home oil burner resulted in a substantial reduction in unburned hydrocarbons, carbon monoxide, and particulate matter compared to emissions from distillate fuels. In addition biodiesel's exhaust emissions of sulfur oxides and sulfates (major components of acid rain) are essentially eliminated. Using Bioheat helps reduce the greenhouse gases which are a main cause of global warming.
Biodiesel is no longer just a feel-good boutique fuel for the few. There is a clear domestic agenda for most Americans which says that we need to become less dependent on foreign oil imports and we need to stop global warming now. Biodiesel helps meet these goals.
The Biodiesel industry is growing at an exciting pace. In 1999 there were 500,000 gallons of Biodiesel produced in America and in 2005 this jumped to 75 million gallons. This year the projected national sales will be 150 million gallons! There are 65 Biodiesel plants in production in the U.S., of which 8 plants are expanding. Additionally, 50 new Biodiesel plants are under construction.
The blending of biodiesel and heating oil brought national attention to our local company. In the past year Devine Bioheat was featured on: the CBS Early Show, the CBS News with Bob Schieffer, News 12, Bloomberg Radio, The Connecticut Post, NECN News, and CNBC. U.S. Senator Joe Lieberman added us to his Joe's Heroes list, a selection of "Connecticut's outstanding citizens, organizations and schools."
Biodiesel is produced from any fat or oil such as soybean oil, through a refinery process called transesterfication.
This process is a reaction of the oil with an alcohol to remove glycerin, which is a byproduct of biodiesel production. Our fuel-grade biodiesel is produced to strict industry specifications (ASTM D6751) to insure proper performance.
